Tuesday, May 6

Kites In The Classroom:  Guest kite builder Cliff Quinn will visit the Foundations of Art classrooms at Grinnell High School to complete a project started in April.  Using materials provided by Cliff, the students decorated the sails for Korean Kono Fighter kites.  On this day, Cliff assisted by his wife Joyce & Dick & Sis Vogel will work with the students as they assemble their kites and begin to learn how to fly and control their "fighter" kites.  Further assistance in flying will be offered at the festival.  The students will have an opportunity to display their artwork in the parade and their skills on the flying field.     

Thursday May 8

    Kites In The Classroom:  Kites in the classroom guest kite builders Cliff Quinn, Joyce Quinn, Chuck Wagoner and Optimist Club members will spend the day at Davis Elementary School where they will lead kite making workshops for ALL third graders.  Using materials donated by the Grinnell Optimist Club each child will have an opportunity to "make and take" their own kite and show them during the parade & festival on Saturday.

Saturday, May 10

 

       A French Toast Breakfast at Veteran's Memorial Building will be offered by the Grinnell Optimist Club.  7:00 to 11:00 at the Veteran's Memorial Building - downtown.

 

    11:00 A.M.  Kite Parade from downtown Grinnell to Ahrens Park.  Watch for the parade route.  Click HERE to check out the parade route and to enter the parade.

    12:00 Noon   Mass Ascension of kites at Ahrens Park with the third grade kite builders showcased in the 2 line arena and high school kite builders showcased in the 4 line arena.

       12:00 Noon - 3:00  Kids games

     12:00 Noon  Silent Auction Begins

     12:30 until we run out of kits.   Children's kite making class in the Grinnell Athletic and Recreation Center at Ahrens Park all materials donated by Cliff and Joyce Quinn.

 THROUGHOUT THE DAY:

     Throughout the day there will be many large and mega kites as well as custom made and one of a kind kites.  Most will be flown outdoors but others will be on display indoors.  Check here to read about out featured fliers.

    Sport and Stunt kite demonstrations and lessons by members of the Kansas City Kite Club, the Illinois Kite Enthusiasts featuring Mike Kory and other visiting fliers.

    Indoor kite flying demonstrations.

    Unique and colorful kites of all sizes and forms flown by AKA (American Kitefliers Association) members from several states.

    Unique and colorful ground displays led by the Kansas City Kite Club.

    Tom Cross, kite historian, will have a display of the history of kiting and kite memorabilia display. 

    St. Mary's Youth Group will offer FREE Face Painting
